Behind the Scenes of Our Fall Fashion Show

Every fall, Squash Blossom turns Decatur Square into a runway. What looks like magic under the lights is actually months of planning, styling, and community collaboration—and this year, as we celebrate 10 years in business, we’re dreaming even bigger.

Styling With Heart

Our team pours creativity into every detail. From head-to-toe looks to the smallest accessory, the styling process is all about balance—bold and unique, yet true to each model’s personality. We work with volunteer models who are customers, neighbors, and friends of Squash Blossom. They graciously make time for fittings and bravely step onto the runway in front of the entire community. Behind the scenes, our stylists carefully consider not just what will wow the audience, but how to make each look accessible and wearable in everyday life.

The Ticket Hustle

While the team is perfecting the fashion, I have the nail-biting job of making sure tickets sell and energy builds. Producing a fashion show is no small feat—it’s a real investment. Charging for tickets helps us get a solid headcount, cover the costs of production, and ensure the experience is as polished as possible. For those who attend, the value goes way beyond the show itself:

Why We Do It

Having the show right in the open air of Decatur Square gives us something priceless: visibility. It introduces Squash Blossom to people who may have never scrolled past us on social media or wandered into the store. It’s our chance to share what makes us unique—the curation, the creativity, the joy of styling—with a wider audience.

Every year, after the applause fades, we ask ourselves: How can we make it even better next time? For our 10th anniversary year, the answer is simple—we want more people to see it, feel it, and be part of it. This show is more than fashion. It’s about celebrating community, creativity, and the spirit that has carried Squash Blossom through a decade of business.
